There’s a crack in my foundation, what do I do?

Foundation CrackYou’ve just seen what might be a crack in your foundation. It might be inside your basement, (the few of us in North Carolina who have basements). Might be on the floor, or the walls. Or you might have seen a crack on your front steps, the stones or bricks or cement at the base of your house.

In the picture here, you can see a crack just under the white siding, between the gray grout and the brick above it. While not necessarily a sign of a foundation problem, in this case it was.

What do you need to do?

When it comes time to call a foundation repair company, make sure you hire one you feel comfortable with. When you talk to the person who answers the phone and the person who comes out to look at your home or building, don’t be afraid to ask all the questions you need to to feel settled.

Check out their ratings with the Better Business Bureau. Ask for references. You might even want to call a couple.
